About Lancers

Launched in 1944, Lancers is an iconic brand
and one of the Portuguese wines most sold around the world

Lancers was launched in 1944, after Henry Behar, an American businessman, visited Europe with the objective of finding a rosé wine that could be particularly appealing to the American palate. His search ended in Portugal, more precisely in the Palmela region, in the famous cellars of José Maria da Fonseca.

In a first approach, the winemaker António Porto Soares Franco presented the rosé Faísca, which immediately pleased and served as a starting point for the creation of the Lancers rosé. Lancers was an immediate success story in the American market with sales of almost half a million boxes in the mid-1960s and one million boxes in the late 1970s.

Today, Lancers continues to be a successful case study, given its international profile and for being one of the best selling Portuguese wines worldwide, mainly in the U.S., Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Lancers Rosé is a surprisingly light and balanced wine, with a touch of extra spark in every friendly get-togethers. With Lancers it is not necessary to be a wine expert to detect the taste of raspberries, watermelons or tropical fruits. It is a sparkling and fresh wine, but not as acid or excessively sweet as other rosé wines. The wine is a mixture of different varieties of Portuguese grapes. A wine true to the original idea of 1944: pleasant and easy to enjoy.
